Habitat for Humanity honored with Housing Visionary Award

WASHINGTON, D.C. — The National Housing Conference honored Habitat for Humanity International with the 2017 Housing Visionary Award at the 45th annual gala on June 8 in Washington, D.C.

According the National Housing Conference website, HFHI was honored for innovating new approaches to revitalizing neighborhoods through volunteer and community partnerships. Since 1976, Habitat for Humanity International has leveraged volunteer labor, sweat equity and community donations to provide affordable homes for nearly 10 million United States residents. Habitat’s affordable homeownership opportunities help families build confidence in themselves and proved the stability and security they need to achieve their dreams.

Through its Neighborhood Revitalization initiative, Habitat affiliates across the United States have served entire communities through partnerships with local organizations. And through Build Louder, Habitat for Humanity engages its staff, volunteers and other supporters in advocacy for federal programs like the HOME Investment Partnerships Program that bring affordable housing and community development to communities across the country.

Fayetteville Area Habitat CEO Tammy Laurence joined the HFHI contingency at the annual gala to receivethe award on Habitat’s behalf.

“This national ranking is a validation of Habitat’s work and our goals to build affordable homes,” said Laurence. “We put faith into action by helping to build, renovate or preserve homes, and by partnering with others to broaden access to affordable housing to break the cycle of poverty.

Each year, NHC recognizes organizations or individuals shaping the path forward for affordable housing in America through leadership, innovation and a focus on people, communities and partnership.

Formed in 1931, the nonprofit National Housing Conference is dedicated to helping ensure safe, decent and affordable housing for all in America. Through nonpartisan advocacy, research and communications for the continuum of housing, NHC develops ideas, resources and policy solutions to move housing forward.
