ELIZABETHTOWN — There is still time to sign up for the Crazy Fun 5K Color Run & Walk to be held on Saturday, Oct. 3, at the Elizabethtown Industrial Park. The race is in cooperation with the Bladen County 4-H and proceeds benefit the United Way of Bladen County.

Bob Mundy, one of the the event’s many organizers, said that race check-in will begin at 7:30 a.m. with the race getting underway at 9 a.m. He said that, as of Thursday afternoon, there were 75 entries and the cut-off will be 100 entries. Each participant will receive a race number, a white T-shirt and special color-run sunglasses.

“This is my first color run race,” said Mundy.

He said the run/walk will have six stations around the course and, as participants pass by each station they will be “painted.” The idea is to get as many of the colors as possible on your shirt by the end of the event. Mundy said that the colors will consist of a mixture of corn starch and dry tempera paint.

“”We encourage everyone to check in and get their stuff (for the race),” said Mundy.

He said the cost to enter the event is $20 for adults and $15 for children under the age of 12.

Mundy said the race committee is made up of volunteers Tiina Mundy, Cathy Kinlaw, Sandra Cain, Marianne Valentiner, Stacey Kinlaw, Carol Strickland and Britt Huggins.

Mundy said the committee has put in numerous hours planning the event.

“I think we will have a good event,” said Mundy.

Mundy said they held the 4k for Food for the past five years that supported Bladen Crisis Assistance Food Pantry. Mundy said the committee felt they wanted to broaden their reach within the community and it was decided that partnering with the United Way of Bladen County was a way to accomplish that. He added the Food Pantry will still benefit from the effort along with other groups.

“The funds will only be used in Bladen County,” said Mundy.
