CHARLOTTE — The 9th Congressional District of the North Carolina Democratic Party will hold its 2018 District Convention on Saturday, May 5, at the George A. Batte, Jr. Fine Arts Center (Batte Center), on the campus of Wingate University, at 403 N. Camden Road, Wingate.

The 9th Congressional District includes the counties of Anson, Bladen, Cumberland, Mecklenburg, Richmond, Robeson, Scotland, and Union.

The convention will feature a number of notable speakers, including NCDP state chair Wayne Goodwin. Registration begins at 12:30 p.m. and the meeting will gavel to order at 1:30 p.m. Lunch may be purchased via an on-site food truck.

Business to be conducted includes the election of a member for each of the following committees: State Convention’s Committee on Credentials and Appeals, Council of Review, and Resolutions & Platform Committee. These positions run from 2018 – 2020. Delegates will also vote on a range of resolutions submitted via county conventions.

“We were thrilled by the success of District 9 in the 2017 municipal elections, and the enthusiasm and energy we saw then has continued to grow. We’ve seen overwhelming turnout at our recent Democratic events as North Carolina Democrats prepare to organize and mobilize like never before to flip seats across the district from the county level to the federal level,” said Cynthia Wallace, chair of the 9th Congressional District of the NCDP.

All registered Democrats residing in the 9th District are welcome to attend, but voting is limited to those elected as delegates to the district convention at their respective county conventions held on either March 24 or March 31.
