ELIZABETHTOWN —For the past 40 years, the Big Blue Store has served the Bladen County communities with a wide variety of farming, home and marine products — and those affiliated with the company are now celebrating those 40 years of service.
Big Blue Stores expanded from Seymour, Indiana, to Clinton in 1978 and, currently, there are three locations: Clinton, Elizabethtown and Kinston. The Big Blue Store was named after the Big Blue River, an 83.8-mile tributary located in east-central Indiana. The Indiana locations are no longer in operation.
“We’ve been locally owned and operated for 40 years,” said Tim Clifton, general manager of the company. “The employee who set the store in Clinton in 1978 continues to work here on a full-time basis. We’re so excited to share our anniversary with our customers and employees.”
Big Blue Store serves both the commercial farmer as well as the hobby farmer. In addition to offering products for the home, it also has a parts and service department.
“We offer selections in clothing, home décor items, power equipment, hand tools, pet supplies, auto and marine parts, farm supplies, feed – just about anything for farm, ranch and home,” said Clifton. “We strive to give our customers a great shopping experience and give back to the communities we’re located in.”
Del Pollert is the owner of the three locations, David Beyer is the manager of the Elizabethtown store.
The 40th anniversary celebration is planned for Friday-Saturday-Sunday this week with a special sale event each day, along with door prizes Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and a light lunch on Saturday, 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The Big Blue Store in Elizabethtown is located at 1700 Mercer Mill Road, just off N.C. 87 East, and is open seven days a week: Monday through Saturday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.; and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. The store can be reached at 910-645-2222.
