NEW BERN — Nash County edged out Bladen County 8-7 Saturday night in the State-Wide Activities Committee 10U Sectional Softball Tournament.
In the second inning, Gabriella Bray, Natalee Sykes, and Brenna Hester scored runs for Bladen County. During the same inning, Kali Allen, Tatum Allen, and Mary Frances Sutton were left on base.
The team would go on to score two more runs in the third inning, with hits by Sykes, Hester, and Allen. Marlene Crabtree and Jenna Brice were brought home.
In the fourth inning, Kallie Bass and Crabtree scored two runs for Bladen County to tie the game at 7-7, while Brice and Bray also reached base. When time expired, the two teams were still tied.
Nash County scored the winning run in the fifth inning to take the win. The loss eliminated Bladen County from the tournament.
Crabtree ended up being the lead scorer for the game, with two runs. Bass, Brice, Bray, Sykes, and Hester each scored one run. Sutton reached base three times. Tatum Allen, Crabtree, Brice, Bray, Sykes, Hester, and Kali Allen all reached base twice, and Bass and Leea Wilkins each reached base once.
