— Join a ranger at 10 a.m. for a guided paddle around Jones Lake. This program will be limited to 11 people. You will need to call the park office at 910-588-4550 to reserve a seat. Canoe, paddle, life jacket and water to float on will be provided. It is recommended that you bring drinking water, bug spray and a change of clothes. You must be able to swim and anyone under 16 must be accompanied by an adult. Please note that this program can be cancelled at short notice due to weather conditions.

— Bladen Community College will host a “Be the Match” bone marrow event from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. If you are between the ages of 18 and 44, are willing to donate to any patient in need, and meet certain health guidelines, a simple swab of tissue from your cheek can place you on the bone marrow registry list. The event takes place in the Bladen Community College Student Center in Building 2. No appointment is necessary and the public is invited to participate. — So, you like ghost stories? Perhaps a big fan of the scary part of Halloween? Then you should plan to have a front row seat at Bladen Community College on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 11 a.m. in the Library. Local historian and BCC Instructor Cliff Tyndall will share chilling tales about local ghosts and haunts. The infamous Maco Light and the terrorizing Hitchhiker are just a sampling of the mysteries with which Tyndall will amuse you in this unearthly and ominous presentation. — The John and Benny Hester families will be celebrating their family reunion at 1 p.m. at the Oak Grove Original Free Will Baptist Church fellowship hall. The meal will be catered and the cost will be $7. Each family is asked to bring a dessert for those with a sweet tooth. If possible it is asked that at least one individual from each of the children of John and Benny attend.

— Come join us on Halloween for fun and games at Jones Lake State Park from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will be having costume contests, hayrides, lots of games, cakewalks, hikes with rangers, animal exhibits and more! — The Bladenboro Beast Fest 5K Fun Run will take place at 8:30 a.m. at the Bladenboro Town Hall. All ages are welcome to come out run, walk or bring your stroller. — The Spirit of Success Crafts and Bazaar will be held at the Cape Fear Farmers Market in Elizabethtown from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m. The event will feature homemade jewelry, homemade party designs and ahandcratfed hair designs and accessories.

— The Chamber Monthly Lunch Meeting will be held as scheduled. The meeting time will be moved to 12:30 p.m. to allow folks to attend the Veteran’s Day program prior to the monthly meeting. The meeting will be at the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market and the guest speaker is Danaher Plant Manager Kevin Southerby.
