ELIZABETHTOWN — Has it really been 10 weeks?

The Summer Sounds Concert Series, an annual Elizabethtown signature event, is poised for the last dance. On Thursday, Jim Quick & Coastline play the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market downtown in the finale of the four concerts.

The Elizabethtown-White Lake Area Chamber of Commerce’s dual series — Sunset Jams in White Lake wrapped up last week — have brought seven bands to the area since the Pizazz band arrived at the lake on June 20. They were rained out, a small but eager crowd being left to only enjoy the pre-event DJ style music along with the attractions of Goldston’s Beach.

Elizabethtown has been played this summer by Cool Heat, the Entertainers and the Catalinas. Pizazz was followed at the lake by the Pink Slips and the Hip Pocket Band.

Crowds have been good, perhaps the largest of which came on the final Thursday of July when the Entertainers were in town.

Throw in the Fourth of July celebration at White Lake, which actually moved to Friday because of rain, and a benefit concert — Night at the Ballpark, featuring the Pink Slips — organized quickly and its been a summer full of toe-tapping delight.

There is no admission charge.

The series is presented by the chamber, Cape Fear Valley Bladen Healthcare, the town of Elizabethtown, Four County Electric Membership Corporation and the Bladen Journal.
