ELIZABETHTOWN — Members of the Bladen County Board of Education learned about the spring 2019 Career and Technical Education post-assessment results Monday night.

The results, which were broken down and explained by Willa Dean Williams, the CTE director, and Bridgette M. White, the curriculum instructional management coordinator, were presented in a PowerPoint presentation. Williams spoke about upcoming assessments and requested cooperation from the board in the event that they are called upon to help.

“We need to remain in compliance with the state for another year,” Williams said.

The documents will make sure performance indicators are met.

“The comprehensive needs assessment is done per local education agency,” she added. “This means what the state usually awards us might not be the same anymore. We are going to have to be very critical and making sure that we evaluate the components that they ask us to do.”

Williams said that they are using a rubric to make sure that information is done.

“As the present CTE director at Bladen County Schools my goal is to make sure that CTE continues to grow and to remain in compliance with what the state is asking us for,” she said.

Some content will be new.

“However, because we do set high standards in Bladen County, we do plan to meet those goals,” she added.

White presented individual statistic and pages from the report, including a breakdown of East Bladen and West Bladen performances by course. Students take a 100-question assessment after completing courses, and those results feed a number of reports.

A student is considered proficient by earning a score of 70 or higher on their CTE state assessment. These scores are utilized in reports that show the trends for each school over a few years, allowing them to be analyzed to examine for improvement.
