CLARKTON — Farm Fest is back.

Since 2007, this town near the Columbus County line has been without a festival. Farm Fest in 2007 was the last from a series of gatherings by varying names, from Farmer’s Day and the N.C. Tobacco Festival of Clarkton of the latter half of the last century to Clarkton Farm Fest that made a run from 1999 to 2007.

Marsha Burney, in an email message, wroter that a group met about a month ago to bring an annual festival back to life. The plan is for a scaled-down version to get going, with the hope of building it.

Farm Fest happens Sept. 28, headlined by The Pink Slips band. They’ll play at the Dixie Youth Baseball complex, 395 Perimeter Road in Clarkton, from 7 to 11 p.m. Gates open at 6; admission is $10.

Lawn chairs and coolers are welcome, but no bottles are allowed. Concessions will be served, and there’ll be local craftsmen and vendors.

Throwback T-shirts with the Tobacco Festival logo will be on sale, too.
