ELIZABETHTOWN — Cape Fear Distillery’s Maritime Gin has won its third and fourth National Spirit Awards.

Alex Munroe, owner of the less than 1-year-old distillery, said in a release, “We entered our Maritime Gin into the competitions at the first of the year when we were just getting into distribution, so we really didn’t know how the market was going to react. But soon enough, many ABC stores began to double and triple their orders. Obviously, the market likes our gin. The Proof Awards and John Barleycorn Awards validate what our customers are telling us: that we’ve produced a world-class gin!”

Maritime Gin was a gold medal for taste and a silver for design at the John Barleycorn Awards held in Dallas during the summer. It won double gold and bronze nationally in the Food and Beverage Proof Awards earlier this year.

The John Barleycorn Awards come from a team of elite authoritative and influential spirits journalists and judges. The competition is a double-blind tasting.
