WHITE LAKE — A 4-year-old White Oak child has drowned at White Lake on Monday afternoon.

White Lake Police Department Sgt. Mike Salmon said, “The mother brought him and his four siblings to White Lake to go swimming.”

Salmon said the boy was swimming with his two older brothers near Camp Clearwater when the incident happened. Salmon said “a good samaritan” saw the child face down in the water, noticed he was unresponsive and pulled him to the pier and started CPR.

Salmon said the White Lake Police Department and White Lake Fire Department arrived on the scene at 12:35 p.m.

Bladen County Emergency Management Director Bradley Kinlaw said when the fire department and police department arrived on the scene they took over CPR and the child was transported to Bladen County Hospital in Elizabethtown.

Salmon said the child was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:26 p.m.

“Right now, it just appears to be a tragic accident,” said Salmon of the investigation.

Salmon said the family members were not guests or residents of Camp Clearwater.
