ELIZABETHTOWN — Cape Fear Tire has donated a two-way radio antenna to be used by Bladen County public safety entities for backup radio communications.

County law enforcement, fire and rescue teams will be able to make use of the gift.

Cape Fear Tire has more than a half-century of service to the county since Dewey Smith founded it in 1956. President Billy Smith and Harold Smith joined their father Dewey in a ceremonial presentation to Sheriff Jim McVicker.

In a release from the Sheriff’s Office, Larry Smith said, “We are just glad to be able to do our part to help our community, law enforcement and emergency services. I spent 21 years with the Elizabethtown Rescue Squad as a charter member and 20 years as a county commissioner. We understand the importance of radio communications in an emergency situation.”
