Robert Mazur Drive dedicated at Bladen County Park

ELIZABETHTOWN — Beloved and respected, Robert Mazur can add one more caveat to his time working for Bladen County.

His name is on a road. And they don’t do that for just anybody.

Fittingly, Robert Mazur Drive is at an entrance to Bladen County Park along U.S. 701, where he toiled many hours and impacted the lives of thousands of youth who came down the gravel drive with their parents to play, practice, or just enjoy being outdoors.

Mazur was director of the Recreation & Parks Department for 18 years before moving over to lead General Services as its manager in 2005. He retired in 2016.

“This is a well-deserved honor,” County Manager Greg Martin said Monday afternoon as a strong presence of county department heads gathered at the sign. “My first impression of him was his strong work ethic.”

Martin, a veteran of nearly two decades with the county, said it was at the park when he first met Mazur.

Mazur was humbled by the occasion and thanked everyone for coming. He flashed a smile of appreciation throughout, one that undoubtedly has been seen by scores of recreation participants through the years.

“There’s two things you could count on with him,” Martin said. “One was professionalism. And the second was dependability. He’s great to work with.”

Mazur was joined on the occasion by family members Michelle, his wife; Jordan Mazur Raynor, his daughter; Jamison Raynor, his granddaughter; and Sandra Hansley, his mother-in-law.
