ELIZABETHTOWN — Children under age 12 are restricted from visiting the Bladen County Hospital beginning Monday, a release says.

The concern is for flu and flu-like diseases.

Cape Fear Valley Health issued the directive for all of its hospitals to include Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, Highsmith-Rainey Specialty Hospital, Cape Fear Valley Rehabilitation Center, Behavioral Health Care and Hoke Hospital.

The release says people experiencing flu-like symptoms, such as fever, cough, sore throat and runny nose are urged not to visit friends and family at the hospitals. They are encouraged to see a physician.

Hand washing is the best preventative for the flu and other infections, the release says.

The restriction will be monitored along with flu statistics.
