ELIZABETHTOWN — Ricky Leinwand and his family, as they have for more than 40 years, provided a Christmas shopping trip to Leinwand’s for residents of the Kiwanis Cottage at the Boys and Girls Homes of North Carolina.

Because of COVID-19, this year’s excursion was Leinwand handling the shopping based on the children’s sizes.

“We are truly grateful that Leinwand’s has continued to provide support so that the children can enjoy the holidays this way,” Ricky Creech said. He’s the president and CEO of the Boys and Girls Homes. “It is because of gifts like this that the children and families we serve are provided with an environment of care where health, healing and hope are experienced every day.”

The Boys and Girls Homes traces its roots back to 1954, having helped more than 7,500 children in that time. The Lake Waccamaw campus features an accredited school for middle and high school students, vocational education, recreation facilities, a farm, chapel and cottage life.

Leinwand’s has been a Broad Street fixture since 1935. Members of the family have served in county civic clubs regularly, including many stints as president.
