ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen Community College Foundation tried a new venture to offset the coronavirus wiping out Sunset and Vine from last fall on Saturday.

Early indications, college leaders say, is that a successful inaugural effort was realized through the support of the community.

The Gala Dinner to Go, anchored by presenting sponsor Barefoot Sandwich Shoppe and Barefoot Brew, included more than two dozen sponsors of varying contributions and more than 130 plates of pork chops and ribeyes. The meals were complete with all the fixins for patrons to take home, cook and enjoy.

Dressed formally to the nines, college ambassadors Hannah Wheeless, Nicholas Norris and Anthony Milano provided curbside service while a coordinated team efficiently worked the grounds and inside of the Cape Fear Farmer’s Market. President Dr. Amanda Lee and senior staff were among the many readying the meals.

An exact amount of funds raised was not immediately available. The foundation’s efforts supply scholarship opportunities for students at the Dublin campus.
