New CEO at Lumberton hospital begins in October

LUMBERTON — Chris Ellington, president of UNC Health Care Network Hospitals, has been named the new president and CEO of UNC Health Southeastern.

The Lumberton hospital, formerly known as Southeastern Regional Medical Center, is led by Joann Anderson. Her retirement was announced recently, to become effective Dec. 31. Ellington will take the position in October, with Anderson being in an advisory role through the remainder of her tenure, a release says.

“I am very excited to join UNC Health Southeastern and to lead the organization entrusted with the health of North Carolinians in the region,“ Ellington said in a prepared statement. “I look forward to relocating to the area, joining the team and getting to know the residents of Robeson County and the surrounding communities.”

In Bladen County, Southeastern Health Center Clarkton is an primary care affiliate of UNC Health Southeastern.

Ellington served as executive vice president and chief financial officer for UNC Hospitals from 2008 to 2020. He has also previously been in senior leadership roles at health-care systems in Kentucky, West Virginia, Alabama and Texas.

Ellington did his undergraduate work in accounting at Clemson, and earned his MBA from the University of Phoenix.
