Bladen County reappraisal unanimously approved, goes into effect Jan. 1

ELIZABETHTOWN — Bladen County has adopted the 2022 Schedule of Values Standards and Rules in the revaluation process.

The nine-member board of county commissioners gave unanimous approval during its meeting Monday evening. A public hearing had been held Dec. 6, at which time no members of the county came forward.

The reappraisal goes into effect Jan. 1.

• The board held a public hearing to receive comments for a proposed amendment to the Bladen County Zoning Ordinance. Nobody came forward to speak. There was no action taken by the board.

• The board unanimously approved use of state education lottery funds in the amount of $291,030 for the purpose of roof replacement at Clarkton School of Discovery.

• Dr. Jimmy Tate, president of Mt. Calvary Center for Leadership Development that has locations in Burgaw and Wallace, gave a 17-minute presentation to the board. The center, according to the presentation, serves mostly low income and rural communities. It provides service to Bladen County.

• Charles Ray Peterson, the chairman of this board for 2021, was recognized in a brief ceremony at the start of the meeting. Other recognitions were offered to Sandra Kemp, for retirement effective Oct. 31, and Chuck Heustess, for retirement effective Nov. 30.
