ELIZABETHTOWN — It’s an all-you-can-eat delight for seafood lovers everywhere when the Dublin Peanut Festival Committee hosts its third annual Oyster Roast and Fish Fry on Saturday.

Seafood connoisseurs will no doubt be lined up to partake of the steamed oysters, fried whiting filets, slaw, hush puppies, dessert, and water or tea.

The event is held each year to offset the cost of a $2,000 scholarship given annually to a graduating senior from West Bladen High School who will be attending Bladen Community College. The scholarship is given to help students pay for tution, books and other expenses. In addition to the oyster roast and fish fry, the committee, on the third Saturday of September, puts on the annual Dublin Peanut Festival.

“The proceeds of these two events have allowed the committee to help with numerous worthwhile causes throughout the county,” stated Bobbie Todd, a member of the Dublin Peanut Festival Committee.

Last year’s proceeds from the oyster roast netted around $2,500. The goal this year is to surpass that figure to enable the committee to continue to contribute to the scholarship fund and the many needs of Bladen County.

“For 24 years, our focus has been on our local schools and communities,” said Todd. “It’s a big deal that we give away ($2,000) every year.”

The oyster road and fish fry will be held at Lu Mil Vineyard in The General Store and will run from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m.

Tickets may be purchased in advance for $35 at Lu Mil Vineyard, Taylor Manufacturing or any Peanut Festival Committee member. Tickets will also be available at the door for $40. Interested persons can call 910-876-4884 for information.
