ELIZABETHTOWN — Members of the Raymond W. Biglow Veterans of Foreign War Post 8062 held their regular monthly meeting on Saturday, Feb. 20, and hosted a reception for recipients of the VFW Law Enforcement Officer of the Year and the VFW Firefighter of the Year awards for the local Post.

— Firefighter of the Year: William R. “Rusty” Marsh of the Clarkton Fire Department.

— Law Enforcement Officer of the Year: Richard “R.J.” Bailey II of the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.

“We’ve been doing this kind of thing for many years,” Gause said. “We think it’s important to recognize these folks for what they do in the community.

Gause added that there is a nomination process each year that comes from the individual departments, and a VFW committee narrows down the list and chooses a winner.

The Post meets the third Saturday of each month at 3 p.m. at their facility on Hill Street in Elizabethtown. Any veteran who served on foreign soil is invited to attend and join the local group.
