TAR HEEL — Residences and businesses along N.C. 87 in Tar Heel saw their share of damage when Hurricane Matthew swept through the region on Oct. 8. Clearly visible in the Smithfield Foods area were a breached dam at a residence that completely emptied a pond, as well as a giant oak tree that was uprooted in front of a home.
