ELIZABETHTOWN — A new boutique has pranced into town.
Aug. 22 saw the opening in downtown Elizabethtown of Priss Pots, a boutique dedicated to “a little bit of everything,” according to new owner Christie Merritt.
“I like to say we’ve got gifts you can give to others or anything you want to decorate with yourself,” the businesswoman remarked.
About half of the shop is filled with girly-girl items like polka-dotted duffel bags, whimsical license plates waiting to be monogrammed, or garden flags in pastel pinks, blues, and greens. Many of the items bear the bows the owner and her daughter, Mercedes Merritt, make. Yankee candles on a wooden crate display, jewelry, and chevron pillows find their home in the store, as do birdhouses, thermals, and change purses in bright colors.
A children’s section offers delicately wrapped picture books, pocket pillows for the Tooth Fairy, and homemade prissy hair bows.
The shop will monogram anything that can be monogrammed, even items brought into the store.
The other half of the boutique is dedicated to seasonal items, which range from pillows, jewelry, and wreaths to bows, birdhouses, and yard art and door decor.
Though the venture is Merritt’s first into owning a business herself, selling crafts is something she’s done for quite some time. An employee of Merritt’s Pottery for 33 years, Merritt got her start with the customers there.
“I’ve always been into crafts, and I would make some things and set them up for sale in the office there,” she explained.
“The office wasn’t this big, though” she continued, gesturing around the store, “so I couldn’t sell as much as I can here. When this store opened up, I just decided to go for it.”
The crafter makes many of the items she sells, and what’s not made by her own hands, she said, is more than likely made locally, as the business tries to enlist local people as much as possible.
Merrit said in the three weeks since opening, things have been going very well.
“Wreaths, bows, and pillows — those have been selling super,” she commented. “I couldn’t ask for things to be going any better.”
Priss Pots is open Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The store is located at 119 W. Broad St. in Elizabethtown.
