WHITEVILLE — Detectives with the Columbus County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a Whiteville man on marijuana charges following a month-long investigation.
Officials say community tips and complaints prompted an investigation into Harrell Smith, Jr., 37, of Pleasant Plains Church Road.
During the course of the investigation, detectives say they determined Smith was responsible for manufacturing and distributing marijuana in the South Whiteville area.
Officials executed a search warrant at Smith’s residence on Oct. 13 and seized 12.1 pounds of marijuana.
Smith was charged with two counts of trafficking marijuana and one count of maintaining a dwelling for a controlled substance.
He was booked in the Columbus County Jail under a $6,000 bond.
