CLARKTON — A Columbus County man was shot in Clarkton on Sunday, and Bladen County sheriff’s deputies have very little information about the shooter.

According to Sheriff Jim McVicker, the incident took place at about 7 p.m. at a building that formerly housed a washerette near the Time Saver in Clarkton.

“EMS and law enforcement responded … (and) when they arrived most of the people who were there when the shooting happened had left,” McVicker said. “Those who remained did not give much information to law enforcement.”

The victim was identified as Michaaveei Brown, 21, who claimed he lives in Columbus County but did not give an address.

Brown, who was shot once in the leg, was transported to New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington where he remains after undergoing surgery. McVicker said that Brown was unable to identify his assailant or give a reason for the attack.

“The investigation is continuing,” McVicker said. “… anyone with information on this shooting is urged to contact the Bladen County Sheriff’s Office.”

Those with information can call 910-862-6960 and remain anonymous.
