LUMBERTON — Authorities hope a cash reward will draw out new information about the unsolved murders of two people in Robeson County earlier this year.

Lumberton police, the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office and the governor’s office are coordinating efforts to solve the cases.

McCrory announced Thursday that his office would offer rewards of up to $5,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whoever killed 28-year-old Charles Blackmon and 56-year-old Mary Ann Thompson.

Blackmon was shot several times and killed while walking on Arnette Street on April 12. According to a statement from McCrory’s office, Blackmon was shot with two different firearms and received multiple gunshot wounds after he fell to the ground.

Thompson was shot while she was sleeping in her Front Street home on Feb. 27. The shooting was one of eight investigated by Lumberton police from Feb. 26 to Feb 27. Those shootings appear to be related, according to McCrory’s office.

Anyone with information about either of these cases should contact the Lumberton Police Department at 910-671-3845, the Robeson County District Attorney’s Office at 910-272-6014, or the State Bureau of Investigation at 919-662-4500.

Lumberton police are also renewing their calls for information about a May 2014 shooting that killed one Bladen County man and injured another at a now-shuttered Lumberton night club.

“We’ve got some information right after the shooting happened but we were not able to get enough to say who did the shooting,” Lumberton police Capt. Terry Parker said. “We have no suspects at this time and we’re hoping to generate some leads releasing this information again.”

The shooting occurred on May 31, 2014, at Club Kalipzo on Lackey Street. A fight broke out and shot were fired, fatally striking 29-year old-Samuel Lewis, a married father of two from Elizabethtown. Also injured was Dexter Brooks, 25, of Bladenboro.

Parker said police interviewed Brooks, but since he was not from the county, he did not know anyone at the club that night. Erich Hackney, a District Attorney’s Office investigator, said at the time that more than 80 people, including two security guards, fled the club immediately following the shooting, leaving law enforcement few potential witnesses to interview.

“We’re just asking anyone who was there and may have information to share it with us even if they have shared that information before,” Parker said.

Anyone with information about the Club Kalipzo shooting should call police Detective Dereck Evans at 910-671-3845.
