DUBLIN — Bladen Community College will welcome its commencement speaker, the Rev. Dwight Bernard Cannon, executive director of the Department of Global Missions of the A.M.E. Zion Church, to the 2018 curriculum graduation.

Cannon graduated with honors from the University of South Africa Pretoria with a bachelor of arts degree in religious and biblical studies. He was awarded the Honorary Doctor of Divinity Degree from Livingstone College for exemplary service and outstanding work for the A.M.E. Zion Church in Africa. In 2012, he graduated magna cum laude from Hood Theological Seminary in Salisbury with a master of divinity degree.

He has pastored A.M.E. Zion churches across North Carolina as well as Brown Community Church in East St. Louis, Illinois. From 1997 until 2004, Cannon served as resident missionary, presiding elder, and pastor of Spottswood A.M.E. Zion Church in the Republic of South Africa. Since his return to the United States, he has supplied St. Mark in Whiteville, pastored at St. James in Goldsboro, and pastored at Wesley in Burlington, New Jersey.

Cannon has also served as an accountant and assistant to the editor and writer for the department of church school literature. In 2012, he served as the emissary for the late Bishop James E. McCoy, and was the administrative assistant to Bishop Roy A. Holmes and Bishop Louis Hunter Sr. in India. Currently, he is editor-in-chief for the Missionary Seer.

The BCC curriculum graduation is Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. The public is invited.
