ROCKY POINT — Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson scored 18 points across the second and third quarters to lead East Bladen past Heidi Trask on Saturday, 53-27, in a Four County Conference game.

The win improved the Lady Eagles to 16-4 overall and 8-2 in the conference.

East Bladen got baskets from Shardajah Brown, Ashley Hardin, two from Emily Scott and a pair of free throws from Moore-Peterson to open a 10-4 lead after the first quarter of play.

The offenses opened up in the second stanza, with the Lady Eagles getting the best of it with a 19-13 advantage. Moore-Peterson poured in nine points that included a three-pointer and Patience Ward added five points, leading East Bladen to a 29-17 halftime lead.

Moore-Peterson stayed hot in the third quarter, dumping in another nine points with a three-pointer. Ward added six points and East Bladen’s defense stepped up to outscore the Lady Titans, 17-1, and extend the lead to 46-18.

With the Lady Eagles’ bench taking over in the fourth quarter, Heidi Trask managed to win the period 9-7, but the visitors had long sealed the win.

“We didn’t play too well … but our second team came in and did a good job in the second half to finish it out,” East Bladen coach Patty Evers said. “I’m really proud of this group of girls — who would have thought we would have 16 wins?”

Moore-Peterson led the Lady Eagles with 20 points and added fours steals. Ward filled the stat sheet with 13 points, seven rebounds and five steals; Scott had seven rebounds and five steals; and Yolanda Coston contributed five steals. In all, East Bladen had 27 steals in the game.
