ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen’s Lady Eagles evened their record at 2-2 on Thursday with a three-game sweep of visiting St. Pauls in a non-conference match.
Lacey Suggs and Lexie Mendell each hammered in 13 service winners in the match to lead East Bladen. Suggs added six aces and four kills, while Mendell had three aces and five kills.
Also filling the stat sheet was Claire Campbell, who contributed nine service points with four aces and a kill. Miller Heustess gave the Lady Eagles 12 assists and two kills, while four of her seven service winners were aces.
Abby Ward added eight service winners and Shardajah Brown had seven service winners with three aces.
— West Bladen used a trio of goals in the second half to earn a non-conference tie with visiting West Columbus.
Caleb Johnson tallied a goal for the Knights, but the Vikings opened a 2-1 edge in the first half and protected that lead until halftime.
But in the second half, despite two West Columbus goals that put the Vikings up 4-1, West Bladen goals by Seth Britt, Luis Labra and Christian Diego a goal that came with just 23 seconds left in the match — gave the Knights the tie.
— In Dublin on Thursday, West Bladen won its second straight match with a 25-14, 25-10 and 25-21 non-conference win over visiting West Columbus.
Morgan Schumacher slammed in 17 service winners, including four aces, and added four kills and two blocks to lead the Lady Knights. Logan Autry added eight service points with three aces and three kills, while Laikyn Pait contributed six service points and six kills.
Kassidy Anderson had six service winners with four aces and three kills, and Lorna Smith added five kills for West Bladen.
— The Lady Knights completed a recent match halted by rain, then played the regularly scheduled match against visiting Purnell Swett on Thursday in Dublin — and West Bladen took both matches from the Class 4-A team to improve to 4-0.
In the suspended match, the lady Knights got singles wins from No. Alanna Ludlum, 8-6; No. 2 Amber Long, 8-0; No. 5 Haley Dimery, 8-4; and No. 6 Rachel Bryan, 8-4. West Bladen then got a win at No. 1 doubles duo Ludlum and Long to finish the 5-2 team win.
In the scheduled matchup, the Lady Knights battled the pesky Lady Rams and came away with a 5-4 win.
West Bladen got singles wins from Ludlum, 8-4; Long, 8-5; and Bryan, 8-2. In doubles, Ludlum and Long gave the Lady Knights an 8-5 win at No. 1 and the No. 3 team of Dimery and Conner Brisson won, 8-5.
