DUNN — West Bladen opened the 2017 volleyball season at home against South Brunswick on Tuesday came away with a non-conference loss by the scores of 25-7, 25-23 and 25-12.

“The varsity girls played an excellent game against South Brunswick,” said Lady Knights coach Gaye Davis. “They are a very talented team (and) our varsity team only has two returning players.

“I am proud of how they girls have done so far,” she added. “The true game is not always shown on the scoreboard.”

Despite the loss, several of the West Bladen players put positive numbers in the scorebook, including Mikayla Winebarger, who had eight service points with an ace along with four kills and a block; Raegan Davis, who put up six service points with an ace and five kills; Alise Pait with eight service points and a kill; Elizabeth Allbright with three kills; Lexie Corrothers with two kills; and Madison Collins with four service winners.

Also, Carolline Davis had two service points with an ace; Patience Parker had four service points and a kill; Callie Lewis had a service winner and a kill; and Brinkley Collier fired in a service winner.

A rematch between the two teams was scheduled for Thursday in Southport.
