PEMBROKE — West Bladen rallied from a halftime deficit Tuesday against undefeated Class 4-A Purnell Swett, then settled for a 2-2 tie in the season opener for the Knights.
The Rams tallied a goal in the first half of what was turning into a defensive match. But West Bladen came out in the second half and pressed the issue — knotting the game at 1-1 on a free kick by Chris Frank.
Just moments later, Victor Lopez fired home a shot for the Knights that gave them a brief 2-1 edge.
Purnell Swett, 2-0-2, scored the tying goal with close to 5 minutes to play.
West Bladen is 0-0-1 and will face former Four County Conference foe Midway on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
— In Fairmont on Tuesday, the Lady Knights of West Bladen swept the three doubles matches to seal a 7-2 Three Rivers Conference match against Fairmont.
In singles, West Bladen got wins from No. 2 Conner Brisson, 8-6; No. 3 Savannah Lee, 8-2; No. 4 Autumn Brisson, 8-1; and No. 5 Mireya Sandoval, 8-3.
Winners for the Lady Knights in doubles was the No. 1 team of Helen Lopez and Conner Brisson, 8-4; the No. 2 tandem of Lee and Autumn Brisson, 8-6; and the No. 3 duo of Sandoval and Alyssa Smith, 8-3.
West Bladen is now 3-0 overall and in the conference.
— In Whiteville on Tuesday, the Lady Wolfpack whitewashed visiting East Bladen in straight sets, 9-0.
The Lady Eagles fell to 1-2 overall and in the Three Rivers Conference with the loss.
— In Fairmont on Tuesday, West Bladen was swept by the Lady Golden Tornadoes in the Three Rivers Conference opener by the scores of 25-15, 25-13 and 25-19.
Raegan Davis tallied four kills, four solo blocks and an ace, while Patience Parker also had four kills and an ace. Lexie Corrothers contributed three kills, while Mikayla Winebarger and Madison Collins each had two kills. Madison Allbright added a solo block.
The Lady Knights are now 0-3 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
— In Whiteville on Tuesday, the Lady Wolfpack swept visiting East Bladen in the Three Rivers Conference opener by the scores of 25-8, 25-13 and 25-9.
Hannah Devane had six kills for the Lady Eagles and Ashley Hardin added six service winners and two kills.
East Bladen is now 0-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
