Eagles blank Harrells in soccer; West whips South Columbus in tennis

ELIZABETHTOWN –East Bladen got a pair of goals from both Jake Evans and Caleb Hatchell, leading the Eagles to a 9-0 non-conference whitewashing of visiting Harrells Christian Academy on Tuesday.

Also scoring goals for East Bladen were Gabe Barber, Keshaun Davis, Garrett Melvin, B.J. Monroe and Dan Tatum.

The Eagles scored all of their goals in the first half, had a 13-0 advantage in corner kicks and a 29-2 margin in shots on goal over the Crusaders.

Brooks McGill had three assists in the match, while Barber and Greyson Hesutess each had two. Evans and Melvin each contributed one assist.




In Tabor City on Tuesday, the Lady Knights of West Bladen swept the trio of doubles matches against host South Columbus to earn a 5-4 win in a Three Rivers Conference match that was continued from a previous day.

The Lady Stallions held a 4-2 edge after the singles match when rain postponed the deciding doubles matches.

For West Bladen, the No. 1 tandem of Conner Brisson and Savannah Lee earned a hard-fought 9-7 win; the No. 2 duo of Helen Lopez and Autumn Brisson took a tough 8-6 win; and the No. 3 team of Mireya Sandoval and Alyssa Smith won an 8-3 verdict.

The win pulls the Lady Knights into a first-place tie with South Columbus in the conference, each with 16-1 records. The two teams were supposed to play their final match against each other, but rain postponed things until later in the week.
