East, West win soccer matches

LAKE WACCAMAW – Angel Martinez made 23 saves in the nets for West Bladen on Wednesday, leading the Knights to a 2-0 win over East Columbus in a Three Rivers Conference match.

Irvin Hernandez and Keni Verdugo Gomez each scored late in the match to seal the win for West Bladen.

The Knights are now 7-7-2 overall and 7-4-1 in the conference.

— In Whiteville on Wednesday, the Eagles got a trio of second-half goals — one each by Gabe Barber, Caleb Hatchell and Brooks McGill — to knock off Whiteville in a Three Rivers Conference match.

Jake Evans had two assists, while Pierce Melvin and Hatchell each had one. McGill led East Bladen with 16 steals, while Ezequiel Arteaga and Melvin each had 14. Spencer Scott had five saves in the nets.

The Eagles are now 18-1 overall, 12-0 in the conference.
