KENLY— The No. 1 team out of the Eastern Plains Conference dismantled the visiting West Bladen girls tennis team on Wednesday in the first round of the state’s Class 2-A dual team playoffs, sending the Lady Knights home with a 5-1 loss.

West Bladen completed its team season with an overall record of 16-3 under the first season for coach Mary White. The Lady Panthers improved to 18-2.

Wednesday’s match was decided after the six singles matches were played, with Savannah Lee giving the Lady Knights their only point of the day with a win over Abby Morris in the No. 2 singles match.

North Johnson sealed the match by taking the other five singles contests, making doubles competition moot.

Although the West Bladen season is over as far as team competition is concerned, two Lady Knights will continue on.

West Bladen’s No. 1 doubles team of Conner Brisson and Lee will compete on Friday in the first round of the state’s Class 2-A Mid-East Regionals in Goldsboro.

Brisson and Lee have put together a 7-4 record this season and were crowned the Three Rivers Conference Tournament champions earlier in the month.
