Eagles blank Red Springs to claim conference crown; West falls to Whiteville

ELIZABETHTOWN – A 2-0 win over visiting Red Springs on Monday kept East Bladen perfect in the Three Rivers Conference and gave the Eagles the regular-season title.

East Bladen scored in the first half when Jake Evans booted home a goal, and the Eagles’ defense made the 1-0 score hold up until halftime.

In the second half Greyson Heustess fired home a goal to double the East Bladen lead and, once again, the Eagles’ defense kept the Red Devils from any success. Scott Spencer was credited with four saves in the match for East Bladen in the nets.

Gabe Barber, Brooks McGill and Caleb Hatchell each had an assist in the match for East Bladen.

defensively, the trio of Pierce Melvin, Dan Tatum and Evans each contributed 15 steals, while Barber was right behind with 14 steals, McGill had 12 steals and Keshaun Davis tallied 11 steals for the Eagles. As a team, East Bladen recorded 119 steals in the match.

The Eagles also had a 12-2 advantage in corner kicks.

East Bladen is now 19-1 overall and 13-0 in the conference. They will wrap up conference play Wednesday at home against cross-county rival West Bladen at 6 p.m.


West Bladen falls, 2-0


— In Whiteville on Monday, the Knights of West Bladen suffered a 2-0 loss to the host Wolfpack after giving up a single goal in each half.

West Bladen had its chances, firing seven shots on goal that required saves by the Wolfpack net-minder.

The Knights are now 7-8-2 overall and 7-5-1 in the Three Rivers Conference. They will close out conference play Wednesday when they travel to east Bladen for a 6 p.m. match.
