Clinton nips Eagles in soccer playoffs

ELIZABETHTOWN — The East Bladen varsity soccer season came to an abrupt end Saturday when the Eagles lost to Clinton, 2-1, in the second round of the NCHSAA Class 2-A playoffs.

The loss concludes the Eagles’ season at 21-2 overall — with the Dark Horses, former conference foes in the old Four County Conference, the only team to beat East Bladen this season. The Eagles dropped a 3-0 non-conference verdict earlier in the year.

East Bladen tallied its goal in the first half, but visiting Clinton managed to put a pair of shots into the back of the net to take a 2-1 edge into the intermission.

Neither team could get a score in the second half.

East Bladen won the Three Rivers Conference title with a 14-0 record.

Clinton, now 20-5, will advance to the third round of the Class 2-A playoffs at 18-1 First Flight.
