ELIZABETHTOWN — The Lady Eagles started and finished big Monday in the first round of the Three Rivers Conference girls basketball tournament and beat visiting South Robeson 74-50.
East Bladen’s 19th straight win improves the Lady Eagles to 23-1 this season and advances them to a second-round home game against East Columbus on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
The East Bladen offense was clocking right from the start, as the visitors found themselves in a 22-12 hole after the first quarter. The Lady Eagles extended that lead with a 16-12 advantage through the second stanza and carried a 38-24 edge into the intermission.
The two teams traded 15 points each through the third quarter, but East Bladen went into the fourth frame with a 53-39 lead.
The Lady Eagles’ offense and defense worked together to go on a 21-11 run through the final eight minutes and sealed the 24-point win.
Ja’Tyra Moore-Peterson led East Bladen with 22 points along with five steals; Patience Ward contributed 19 points along with nine rebounds and eight steals; Erica McKoy scored 14 points with five steals; Shardajah Brown scored eight points and had eight rebounds; and Lorna Mendell grabbed six rebounds.
