Eagles get first ‘W’ of the season

ST. PAULS — East Bladen broke into the conference win column on Friday, getting a solid pitching performance from Spencer Scott and a balanced attack at the plate to earn a 5-2 Three Rivers Conference victory over St. Pauls.

Sincere Smith led off the game for the Eagles with a ringing double and scampered home on an RBI single from Greyson Heustess.

After two scoreless innings, East Bladen put together a four-run fourth behind a walk, single by Scott, an RBI double by Pierce Melvin, a Bulldogs error that brought two runs home and an RBI single by Smith for a 5-0 advantage.

St. Pauls nicked Scott for a run in the fourth to cut the gap to 5-1 and added a run in the sixth.

Barber was 2-for-3 at the plate; Quinton Bedsole was 2-for-3; Smith was 2-for-4 with a double and RBI; Heustess was 2-for-4 with an RBI; Melvin had a double and RBI.

Scott gave up just four hits on the mound, walking two and striking out six.


Knights whipped, 8-1


In Dublin on Friday, visiting West Columbus scored six times in the first three innings and never looked back en route to an 8-1 Three Rivers Conference win over West Bladen.

The Vikings plated a run in the first and used an error, two walks, a wild pitch and a balk to manufacture a pair of runs in the second, then scored three two-out runs in the third for a 6-0 advantage.

The Knights avoided the shutout with a run in the fourth when Dalton Pait and Kaleb Heup singled ahead of Nolan Bryant’s RBI single.

West Columbus answered with a run in the fifth and a run in the seventh.

Scott Bowen was 2-for-3 with a double at the plate. He also absorbed the loss on the hill, going four innings, allowing five earned runs, He gave up four hits, walked four and struck out four.
