RED SPRINGS – The Lady Eagles gave up their first Three Rivers Conference goal of the season Wednesday, but still earned a 3-1 win over Red Springs to stay undefeated in conference.
Kenia Medina and Katie Evans tallied first-half goals to give East Bladen a 2-0 halftime lead. Patience Ward added a goal in the second half to seal the win.
Hannah Devane had two assists and Ashley Hardin added an assist and 15 steals. Evans had 13 steals and Cybil Campbell contributed 11 steals.
The Lady Eagles outshot the Lady Red Devils by a 19-3 margin.
*** — In Fairmont on Wednesday, errors hurt visiting West Bladen in a 12-5 loss to Fairmont in a Three Rivers Conference game.
The Golden Knights plated four runs in the fifth to give the home team a 9-5 lead they would not give up.
The Knights got RBIs from Nolan Bryan, Scott Bowen, Kaleb Heup, Trey Storms and Jake Butler.
— In Elizabethtown on Wednesday, visiting Whiteville used a six-run uprising in the seventh to open a tight game and earn an 8-1 Three Rivers Conference win.
The Eagles mustered a run in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly by Shy Pone that drove home Xavier Wooten.
— In Elizabethtown on Wednesday, visiting Whiteville used a late offensive push to take a 7-2 Three Rivers Conference win over East Bladen.
The Lady Eagles plated a run in the bottom of the first behind a walk, single and two hit batters.
The Lady Wolfpack tied the score in the fourth before East Bladen regained the lead in the home half when Anna Kate White tripled and scored on a bunt single by Faith Johnson.
Whiteville answered with six runs over the final three innings to seal the win.
— In Fairmont on Wednesday, the Lady Knights lost a heartbreaker to the Lady Golden Knights when a late rally came up one run short. Fairmont managed to hang on for a 10-9 Three Rivers Conference win.
West Bladen took a 1-0 lead in the first on an RBI single by Abby Dawson, but Fairmont answered with three runs in the home half.
The Lady Knights got a run back in the second on an RBI single by Carley Dawson, but the Lady Golden Tornadoes scored twice in the bottom of the inning for a 5-2 lead.
After a scoreless third, West Bladen scored a run in the fourth on an RBI single by Kylar Reed, but Fairmont responded with three runs in the inning and added a run in the fifth for a 9-3 lead.
In the sixth, West scored twice behind a Carley Dawson triple, who scored on an error. A run-scoring dribbler by Abby Dawson scored the other run to cut the gap to 9-5. Fairmont got a run back in the home half.
The Lady Knights began a rally in the seventh, scoring four times behind an RBI single by Carley Dawson, two-run single by Alara Cashwell and a wild pitch that scored Cashwell before the comeback fizzled.
In Elizabethtown on Wednesday, East Bladen split a pair of Three Rivers Conference matches with visiting West Columbus.
In the opener, the Eagles took four of the six singles matches with wins by Jay McGill at No. 2 (8-1); Jackson Bostic at No. 3 (10-8 tie-breaker); Will Hester at No. 5 (8-3) and Hoyt Register at No. 6 (8-3).
East Bladen sealed the win 5-4 with an 8-3 victory by the duo of Bostic and Tucker Norton at No. 2 doubles.
In the second match, West Columbus rebounded for a 5-4 win.
East earned singles wins at No. 2 by McGill (8-5); Norton at No. 4 (8-4); and Register at No. 6 (8-0).
The Eagles earned one doubles win, an 8-4 verdict at No. 2 by Bostic and Norton.
