DUBLIN — West Bladen’s boys tennis team gave itself a shot in the conference arm on Thursday, sweeping a double-header from visiting Fairmont, 5-4 and 6-3.
The win improves the Knights to 3-5 in the Three Rivers Conference.
In the first match, the two teams split the six singles contests. West Bladen got victories from Jose Osorio at No. 1 by a default; Jacob Hester at No. 4 by a 6-4, 6-3 verdict; and Logan Lewis at No. 6 by a 6-1, 6-4 margin.
The Knights sewed up the match by taking two of the three doubles matches — they won the No. 1 matchup by default; and the duo of Lewis and Hester earned an 8-3 verdict at No. 3.
In the second match of the day, the two teams again split the six singles competitions — West Bladen got an 8-4 win at No. 1 from Osorio; an 8-3 win at No. 5 from Victor Arellano; and an 8-2 win at No. 6 by Hester.
In the doubles action, the Knights swept all three matches — the tandem of Osorio and Desmond Lesesne took an 8-5 win at No. 1; Lewis and Arellano teamed for an 8-3 win at No. 2; and Hester joined forces with Edgardo Lara for an 8-1 win at No. 3.
West Bladen will take the spring break week off before returning to action at Whiteville on April 9.
