Four Bladen County varsity student-athletes were named to all-tournament teams at three spring-break competitions recently.
In Lumberton at the annual Robeson County Slugfest softball tournament, sophomore catcher Alara Cashwell of West Bladen was tabbed for the all-tournament squad after she went 5-for-10 with two doubles, three stolen bases, six RBI and four runs scored.
The Lady Knights went 1-2 in the tournament with a 16-4 win over Red Springs, 11-1 loss to Purnell Swett and 14-8 loss to Fairmont in the fifth-place game.
In Fayetteville at the Terry Sanford Bulldog Invitational Baseball Tournament, East Bladen senior Sincere Smith and junior Greyson Heustess were named to the all-tournament team. Smith had three hits, including a triple, along with four runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI. Heustess had a pair of doubles, three RBI and scored two runs.
The Eagles went 1-2 in the tournament with an 8-0 win over Freedom Christian, a 6-4 loss to Scotland County and a 5-1 loss to Southern Lee in the third-place game.
In Lumberton at the Robeson County Slugfest baseball tournament, senior Scott Bowen of West Bladen was selected to the all-tournament team after getting a double, RBI and a run scored. He also absorbed a tough loss on the mound, hurling a no-hitter through three innings before errors helped lead to the loss — he fanned nine hitters across 5.1 innings.
The Knights went 0-2 in the tournament with a 10-3 loss to Hoke County and 6-2 loss to Lumberton.
