Lady Knights crush South Rob, 24-5

DUBLIN — The Lady Knights dropped a first-inning bomb on visiting South Robeson, scoring 14 runs en route to a 24-5 Three Rivers Conference win.

The Lady Mustangs opened the game with a run in the top of the first, but that just served to poke the sleeping giant.

Two walks preceded a two-run double by Alara Cashwell to start the home half of the inning, and that was followed by an RBI double by Carley Dawson before three straight walks gave an RBI to Jordan Benson for a 4-0 lead. Two wild pitches brought two more runs home, Abby Dawson laced a two-run single and, after two more walks, two more wild pitches plated two runs.

Dawson then ripped her second double of the inning for two runs, Madison Collins roped an RBI single and Brittney Landreth belted a run-scoring double. Moments later, after the ninth and 10th walk of the inning, the fifth wild pitch of the inning scored the final run for a 14-0 advantage.

South Robeson tacked on a run in the second, but West Bladen responded with four runs behind an RBI double by Cashwell, RBI single by Carley Dawson, a double by Collins and a run-scoring single by Jordan Benson — who stole second and scored on two wild pitches.

The Lady Mustangs showed some fight with three runs in the top of the third, but West Bladen got all three runs back in the bottom of the inning when Cashwell ripped an RBI single, Benson lined an RBI single and Natalie Ludlum was hit by a pitch with the bases load to give the Lady Knights a 21-5 edge.

In the fourth, West Bladen added a trio of runs behind a two-run home run by Kyla Reed and, after Carley Dawson singled and stole second and third, Collins brought her home with a fielder’s choice.

Collins went the distance in the circle for the Lady Knights, giving up 10 hits and whiffing two.

At the plate, West Bladen’s 15-hit attack was led by Carley Dawson, who went 4-for-5 with two doubles and four RBI; Cashwell was 3-for-4 with a double and four RBI; Reed was 2-for-2 with a home run and two RBI; Collins was 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI; Benson was 2-for-2 with two RBI; and Landreth had a double and RBI.

The Lady Knights will host Wallace-Rose Hill on Wednesday at 6 p.m. in a non-conference game.
