Osorio, McHill advance to second day of Three Rivers Conference tennis tourney

DUBLIN — Two Bladen County tennis players advanced through the first day of play Wednesday of the Three Rivers Conference boys tennis tournament at West Bladen.

The Knights’ No. 1 singles player Jose Osoroi and East Bladen’s Jay McGill earned berths in the third round after winning their first two matches.

Osorio posted a 6-2 and 6-0 win over Caleb Argueta of Fairmont to move into the third round, while McGill earned a 6-3 and 6-2 win over B. Cox of South Columbus in the first round, then battled for a 3-6, 7-5 and 7-5 win over Carlos Luna of St. Pauls.

In other first-day singles matches:

— Jacob barber of East Bladen knocked off Andrew Cahn of Whiteville in the first round, 4-6, 7-5 and 6-1; then lost to Israel Gonzalez of St. Pauls by a 2-6, 7-5 and 6-3 verdict in the second round.

— Desmond Lesesne of West Bladen beat Elijah Watkins of Fairmont, 6-2 and 6-1 in the opening round; then lost to G. Hanna of South Columbus in the second round, 6-3 and 6-3.

In doubles action on the first day:

00 Will Hester and Hoyt Register of East Bladen whipped Edgardo Lara and Jacob Hester of West Bladen in the first round, 2-6, 6-2 and 6-4; then fell to Tyler Ford and Tanner Hester of Whiteville in the second round, 6-3 and 6-3.

— Jackson Bostic and Tucker Norton of East Bladen defeated Victor Arellano and Logan Lewis of West Bladen in the first round, 2-6, 7-5 and 6-2; but then lost to Antoine Gamble and Bridger Warlick of Whiteville in the second round, 6-3 and 6-3.

The Three Rivers Conference tournament continues on Thursday at West Bladen.
