DUBLIN — Visiting St. Pauls built a big lead, then hung on for a 7-4 Three Rivers Conference win over West Bladen on Friday.
The loss dropped the Knights to 3-17 overall, 3-13 in the conference.
The Bulldogs plated a run in the top of the first before tacking on two more in the third. Errors helped fuel a two-run third inning for the visitors and gave them a 5-0 lead.
West Bladen scored twice in the third when David Valenta and Dawson Bryan were hit by pitches, and a walk to Braylon Williamson filled the bases with Knights ahead of a two-run double by Scott Bowen.
St. Pauls got both runs back in the fourth to open a 7-2 lead, but West Bladen fought back with a pair of runs in the fifth behind a wild pitch for one run and an error for the second run to close the gap to 7-4.
But no further damage occurred.
Bowen took the loss on the hill, working 4.q innings and giving up six hits, five walks, a hit batter and seven strikeouts. Derrick Long finished up and gave up two hits and four walks.
West Bladen will be on the road Tuesday in Tabor City to face South Columbus in a conference game at 7 p.m.
