Smith signs Yankees contract in Florida

TAMPA, Fla. — East Bladen prep baseball star Sincere Smith officially joined the roster of the Gulf Coast League Yankees on Monday after signing his rookie contract with the New York Yankees in Tampa.

Smith, who graduated from high school on Saturday, was drafted 10 days earlier by the Yankees in the 32nd round of the Major League Baseball amateur draft.

Scout Billy Godwin, who was instrumental in getting Smith drafted by the Yankees, was with Smith when he signed his contract. The former Eagles three-sport star is expected to play the outfield for the Yankees.
