DUBLIN — The later it got, West Bladen’s defense just got stronger.

The Lady Knights bounced back from a 40-point loss on Friday to beat Red Springs 33-24 on Monday night in the quarterfinals of the Three Rivers Conference girls high school basketball tournament. West Bladen earned a semifinal date with East Bladen on Wednesday at Fairmont.

Junior Seniah Johnson led the Lady Knights with 15 points. Junior Kasee Singletary added nine. West Bladen remained without injured junior Lexie Corrothers.

Johnson scored 10 points in the first half as the hosts battled to an 18-17 lead. The Lady Knights hung on for victory in the final period despite missing eight of 13 at the foul line.

Red Springs, seeded fifth and exiting the tournament 10-14 for the year, managed just two field goals in the third quarter and one in the fourth.

Taylynn Atkinson led the Lady Devils with 15 points.
