FAYETTEVILLE — West Bladen opened the volleyball season by sweeping host Fayetteville Westover on Monday.

The Lady Knights of ninth-year head coach Gaye Davis prevailed 25-11, 25-20, 25-16. West Bladen, 11-9 a year ago, was scheduled to open Three Rivers Conference play Thursday with a road match at Fairmont but that match has been rescheduled to Sept. 24.

The 3-A Lady Wolverines of the Patriot Athletic Conference, also in their season debut, were scheduled to be the visitor but West Bladen’s gym floor has not been repaired from a fire this summer. The Lady Knights are not expected to host a match until September.

Seniors Jordan Benson and Mikayla Meadows, and junior Amelia Brisson led West Bladen. Benson had 20 digs, Meadows had eight kills and two solo blocks, and Brisson had seven service points and eight aces. Junior Sidnee Walters had six setting assists, five kills and five aces, senior Lexi Corrothers had a trio each of service points, aces and kills, junior Ashlyn Cox had four service points and three aces and junior Shelby Pharr had four service points, three aces and three kills.

The junior varsity team won 26-24, 16-25, 15-9 behind five kills from Whitney McLean. She also served four aces. Emily Young served six aces, and Caroline Brisson had four digs and three aces.
