BLADENBORO — With a game remaining before Christmas, West Bladen is on the cusp of equaling last season’s entire win total.

The Knights of ninth-year head coach Travis Pait turned back Clinton 48-40 in high school boys basketball Friday night at the Castle. West Bladen, finishing its third week of games, rose to 4-2 and faces Whiteville in Three Rivers Conference action next Friday night.

The Dark Horses of the East Central Conference were playing for the third time in four nights, and completing their first week of games following the football team’s advance to the 2-A Eastern finals last week. They exited 1-2.

Senior Tyre Boykin, signed with the University of Missouri at Kansas City, scored a season-high 32 points to lead the Knights. He was 14-for-14 at the foul line and made four 3-pointers in the second half. The 5-foot-11 senior guard is averaging 24.3 points per game and has scored 25 or more in half of his team’s games.

Senior Nolan Bryant added six points for the victors.

Clinton was led by Nick Smith with 10 points, and Deion Venable and Shawn Matthews with eight each.
