Eagles whip Pender 3-1 in regular-season finale

ELIZABETHTOWN — East Bladen tallied two goals in the second half to snap a tie and went on to beat visiting Pender County in the Four County Conference finale Wednesday, 3-1.

Much of the first half was a see-saw battle, but the Eagles found the back of the net about 30 minutes in when Pierce Melvin sent a pass to Brooks McGill, who ripped a shot home for a 1-0 edge that lasted to halftime.

The Patriots knotted the game early in the second half, but East Bladen answered about 12 minutes later when Caleb Hatchell took a pass from McGill and rocketed the ball into the net for a 2-1 lead.

Just moments later, McGill sent a throw-in to Greyson Heustess, who blasted a shot to the back of the net for a 3-1 advantage that held up.

East Bladen finished its regular season at 14-5-1 overall and 10-1 in the conference.
