BURGAW-The East Bladen Eagles defeated the Pender Patriots for a 65-36 in a Waccamaw Conference clash on Friday night. East Bladen senior Masion Brooks led the way by rushing for 359 yards on 15 carries and he scored seven touchdowns. His teammate, Na’Toren Corrbett rushed for 107 yards on 12 carries and scored a touchdown as well. The Eagles finished the game with a total of 570 yards, with Brooks’ longest run of the day being a 57 yard touchdown.
Pender also accumulated huge yards on the ground with over 471 yards rushing but they were setback with two turnovers through the air. The Patriots junior running-back Jeremiah Johnson was the leading rusher for his team with 188 yards on 27 carries. The Eagles pulled away from their opponents in the second quarter as they went into halftime with a 43-18 cushion.
Brooks and Corrbett did most of the scoring in the second half for the Eagles with two touchdowns apiece in the third quarter. Friday’s victory has propelled the Eagles to first place in the Waccamaw Conference with a perfect 3-0 start and they’ve moved to an overall record of 4-3. Their next game will be against Heide Trask away from home this Friday with only three games remaining until the postseason.
