After 55-18 loss, East Bladen Eagles looks to playoffs
WHITEVILLE — The Whiteville Wolfpack defeated the East Bladen Eagles for a 55-18 victory on Thursday night in a Waccamaw Conference clash.
Senior quarterback Luke Odham threw for 164 yards on 7-of-8 passes and he threw four touchdowns to help the Wolfpack claim the victory.
The host held their opponents potent run attack to under 200 yards and kept East Bladen from gaining any momentum with their gameplan on both sides of the ball.
Whiteville senior running-back Amari Best ran for 106 yards on 14 carries, while scoring a rushing touchdown, and he had a 55-yard kickoff return before the halftime buzzer.
Odham connected 3-of-4 of his touchdown passes to junior wideout Will Fisher, with the longest being a 66-yard hook-up in the fourth quarter.
East Bladen senior running-back Masion Brooks rushed for 96 yards on 17 carries and he scored a two rushing touchdown. Senior Na’Toren Corbett caught a 44-yard touchdown pass from Kewone Maynor in the first half to open the scoring for the Eagles.
The Eagles defense was able to force a turnover in the form of a fumble to set-up Brooks for an eventual scoring drive in the second half.
East Bladen concluded the regular season with an overall record of 5-5 and finished third in the Waccamaw with a record of 4-2.
The Eagles will have a bye on the final week of the regular season and will have two weeks to rest before the start of the NCHSAA 1A State playoffs.
Whiteville leapfrogs East Bladen in the standings to take second place after Thursday night’s victory and they’ll take on South Columbus for the final game of the season.
